Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2024

Introduction

At Anotely, we are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use the Anotely browser extension. We believe in transparency and want you to understand exactly what information we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

Data Collection and Storage

Local Storage Only: Anotely stores all your notes, highlights, and annotations exclusively on your device using Chrome's local storage API. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on external servers.

The following data is stored locally on your device:

  • Your notes and annotations (text content, positions, colors)
  • URLs of pages where you've created annotations
  • Your annotation preferences (colors, styles)

This data remains on your device and is never sent to our servers or any third-party services.

No Account Required

Anotely does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information. There is no registration process, no email collection, and no user authentication. You can use the extension immediately after installation without providing any personal data.

Permissions

Anotely requires the following browser permissions to function:

  • Storage: To save your notes and annotations locally on your device
  • Active Tab: To access the current webpage and allow you to create annotations
  • Scripting: To inject the annotation interface into web pages
  • Host Permissions: To work on all websites where you want to create annotations

These permissions are necessary for the extension to function. We do not use these permissions to collect or transmit any data about your browsing habits or the content of the pages you visit.

Third-Party Services

Anotely does not integrate with any third-party analytics services, advertising networks, or data collection services. We do not use cookies, tracking pixels, or any other tracking technologies.

Data Security

Since all your data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's secure local storage API, your notes are protected by your browser's built-in security measures. We do not have access to your data, and it cannot be accessed by third parties through our services.

Data Deletion

You can delete your notes and annotations at any time through the extension interface. If you uninstall the extension, all locally stored data will be removed according to Chrome's standard uninstallation process. You can also clear your data manually through Chrome's settings.

Children's Privacy

Anotely is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Since we do not collect any information at all, this is not a concern, but we want to make our policy clear.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.
